LEGAL STATUS

The State educational institution of the higher professional education "Daghestan State Pedagogical University" - is a federal state educational institution of the higher professional education. It has juridical person status, which realizes professional educational programmes of higher, postgraduate and further training as well as pre-university preparation. The University implements its activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Russian Laws on higher and postgraduate professional education, Standard Provisions on education institution of higher professional education of the Russian Federation, legal texts and regulations of Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.


DSPU HISTORY

The University establishment dates back to the 12th of November 1917, when in Daghestan, Temirkhan-Shura (now Buynaksk), the Pedagogical University was set up in the Normal School premises. The first rector was a graduate of the History Department of Azerbaijan University Dzhavadbek Rafikbegov. The new University was initiated and supported by many famous people of that time, such as: Education Minister of Daghestan Nurmagomed Shakhsuvarov, intellectual circles representatives as well as political and religious figures: Dzhalalutdin Korkmasov, Nazhmudin Gotzinsky, Gaydar Bammatov etc.

During the civil war the first Higher Pedagogical Institution of Daghestan had to temporally stop functioning. In 1931 it continued with the new authorities. Later in the years of the Great Patriotic War against Fascism, namely in 1943, Nov.1, the Council of People's Commissars (Sovnarkom) issued a resolution granting the Institute the status of Women Teaching Institute based in the town of Makhachkala. In 1954 it was renamed into Tsadasa Daghestan State Women Pedagogical Institute. In the course of time the University gradually tra nsformed into one of the most significant centers of teachers training education both in Daghestan and Russia. In 1964 Women Pedagogical Institute was reorganized to be Daghestan State Pedagogical Institute (Soviet Council of Ministers resolution 1467 from 1963, Dec.30) and in 1994 it gained the status of Daghestan State Teachers  Training University (Russian Government resolution 1691-P from 1992, Sept.11; Russian Federation State Committee for Higher Education administrative order 699 from 1994, July 12 and Russian Federation Ministry for Education administrative order  200 from 1994, July 27).


Daghestan State Pedagogical Institute formation was greatly influenced by many outstanding people, such as the great scientist and well-known public person, Corresponding Member of the Soviet Education Academy of Sciences, Akhmed Magomedov

and professor Sheikh Ismailov, Doctor of Biological Sciences, author of more than 130 research papers on ecology and biology, deputy to the Legislative Assembly of the Republic Daghestan, who headed the University in 1987-2007.

 

 

 

 

DSPU TODAY

At present the University is one of the biggest scientific and educational parks in the region. Education and Science Minister A.A.Fursenko in his interview to "100 Nations" magazine mentioned that Daghestan State Pedagogical University was the second largest in the South Federal District in number of Students.


The number of undergraduates who may choose one of 30 qualifications reaches thirty two thousand people. The University has 5 subsidiaries within the republic which are located in Derbent, Buynaksk, Khasavurt, Izberbash and Kizilurt.
University comprises 5 institutes, 26 faculties and over 91 departments, 4 interuniversity research centers, 5 research laboratories and doctoral students may specialize in 25 different areas.
The curricula of all Daghestan State Pedagogical University faculties are based on the combination of academic instruction with student's research work and the combination of thorough theoretical knowledge with special skills meeting demands of educational and cultural and public-service institutions of the Republic, providing them with skilled specialists and methodical assistance. In accordance with the governmental license (GL  n 001957 from 2009, July 14) and accreditation (governmental accreditation license  AA n 002165 from 2009, July 17) the

Among those who teach at DSPU there are 262 higher doctoral degree holders and almost 694 holders of doctoral degrees, with the total number if instructors being 1560.
Scientific and educational activities of the University are held within the principles of the educational process continuity and succession; integration of higher- and further professional education into the European system of education, though maintaining the best traditions of the Russian educational pattern.
Research projects conducted at the University are aimed at developing national social, economical and educational potentials with a special regard for progressive world tendencies, historical, cultural and scientific traditions of Russia and Daghestan.
Applied science handles such issues as: standards of living improvement, efficient economical competitiveness, environment protection.
Humanitarian and social sciences focus on essential mechanisms of democratic society organization and functioning, they dwell on theory of education in the sphere of international and religious relations and in general deal with research into basic scientific and philosophical aspects of creating new pedagogical strategies and studying Russian market economy mechanisms.
