There are several scientific schools at the University:

- the only one of its kind in the Northern Caucasus School of correctional pedagogics and special psychology is headed by rector D.M.Mallaev;
- the School of comparative literary criticism is headed by professor Z.N.Akavov, Doctor of Letters;
- the School of inorganic chemistry with Professor A.M.Gasanaliyev, Doctor of Mathematics, in the lead;
- the School of native language teaching methods is headed by G.G.Burzhunov;
- the School of the Russian language has L.I.Schotskaya at the head;
- the mathematical analysis School runs under the guidance of Professor I.I.Sharaputdinov, Doctor of Mathematics;
- the School of the theory and history of the Russian language, headed by A.A.Abdullayev;
- mathematics theory and methods of teaching School which work is guided by Professor Kh.Sh.Shikhaliyev, Ed. D.

DSPU teaching and scientific stuff publish their monographic works not only in Russia but also in the USA, Great Britain, Turkey, Syria and other countries.

The University has more than 80 academic staff, including 60 doctors, who are actively involved in teaching and research. We offer full time and part-time post-graduate and doctoral degree courses, 25 and 3 specialties respectively; there are Dissertation Councils at the University.

Students????? research activity is one of the entities of the life of the University. Different research contests are held throughout an academic year, best works often win awards in all-Russian research and cultural competitions.

Statistics states 84per cent of graduates manage further employment within their major fields, many of our graduates have succeeded in the professional area, having become ministers and heads of various local governmental offices. The University takes pride in its graduates, educational specialists, scientific and cultural workers, public education supervisors, and honoured teachers of Russia. Among the graduates of the University there are Heroes of Socialist Labour, here are the names of some of them: Kh.Lokalova, Kh.Kaziyeva, famous Daghestani poetess, the Order of St. Andrew the Protoclete Chevalier F.Aliyeva.
