The University is also proud of its sports achievements; it holds one of the leading positions in Europe regarding the number of sports champions of different honours. To maintain this position the University has the Center of Olympic training, there is also the Sports Palace to admit 2000 viewers. Among the graduates of the Universities there are such outstanding sportsmen as four-time Olympic champion in fencing V.Nazlymov, World and Olympics champion Mark Rakita, free-style wrestlers Y.Shakhmuradov and V.Yumin, Z.Abdulbekov, S.Murtazaliyev, K.Kuramagomedov; Sh.Muradov, boxers G.Gaydarbekov and S.Ibragimov. In 2007 five graduates became World champions in arm wrestling; the University students. life-guard team won the title of the Russian champions. Free-style wrestling, taekwondo, wushu and other sports combats are traditionally developed in our area.
